Male arrested on Outstanding Warrant for Shoplifting
44 year-old Donat Cyr was arrested on the 29th of May at 1:50 pm at his residence on an outstanding warrant and charged with one count of theft.
It is alleged that on the 25th of May at approximately 4:25 pm the accused attended at Joe’s No Frills and stole groceries valued at $119.00.
The accused fled the store at the time, but was captured on store video. He is to appear in court on the 30th of June.
Police Respond to House Fire on Bonney Street
At 4:03 am this morning the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services and Police Services responded to a house fire in the 800 block of Bonney Street.
There was no one inside the residence at the time of the fire. The residence received extensive damage. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
Fire and Police Services are continuing the investigation.
Two Injured in Motor Vehicle Collision
City police attended to a two vehicle collision on the 29th of May at 10:22 pm at the intersection of Wellington Street East and Bruce Street that sent both drivers to hospital by ambulance for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
It is alleged that a Pontiac vehicle was travelling westbound on Wellington Street East when the driver failed to stop at the red light at the intersection of Bruce Street and was struck by a GMC pick up that was travelling northbound on Bruce Street being operated by a 35-year-old female.
After impact, the Pontiac spun and struck a utility pole. Both vehicles were severely damaged.
The driver of the Pontiac, 27 year-old Adelina Monaco of 188 Second Line West was charged with one count of fail to stop for red light under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
Two Break and Enters Reported Yesterday
An alarm was activated at the Northern Jewellery and Crafts Store on Northern Avenue around 1:41 am this morning.
The store was entered and several rings and necklaces were reported stolen.
A residence on Idaho Drive was entered yesterday some time between 8:15 am and 5:25 pm. A television, a HDMI cable and some Playstation games were reported stolen.
Mischief Report
Three vehicles that were parked at a residence on Parkshore Drive were egged and the yard was strung with toilet paper.
The incident occurred sometime between 11:00 pm and 3:00 am this morning.
Theft Reports
Two vehicles were entered last evening in the areas of Melville Road and Ferris Avenue. A Canon Powershot camera and bag and a backpack were reported stolen.
