City Police officers arrested a year old male this morning for failing to appear court on domestic related matters from late in 2013. He will be appearing in Bail Court on March 31st.

A 15 year old young person was charged with mischief and two counts of breaching a Young Offender Probation order. It is alleged he damaged siding on his mother’s home and was in possession of drug paraphernalia when he was on conditions not to be as well as to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He will be appearing in Bail Court as well.

On the 27th of March, 2014 shortly before 12:45 p.m., city police responded to an east end address after receiving a 911 call.

A male suspect attended at an address and threatened a male. The suspect then left the area.

The victim attended at a neighbor’s residence, who was an off duty police officer, and told him of the incident.  At this time the suspect returned to the area and attended at the neighbours address where the victim was. The off duty officer identified himself as a police officer at which time, the suspect, without warning, swung a bat at him, striking him twice. The victim was not harmed. The suspect left the area after threatening to return with a gun and kill the males.

The off duty officer noted that the suspect had apparel on which had gang associated insignia.

A female, who was in a vehicle, waiting for the suspect, also threatened the victims.

The police were immediately called and the suspects left in a car. The suspect lost control of the vehicle in the area of Gibbs Street and Eastern Avenue and the vehicle ended up in a snow bank. The male fled the car on foot. The female was apprehended by officers at the vehicle and taken into custody.  At the time of the arrest the female had Percocet on her.

Police Service Dog Justice was involved in tracking the suspect along with members from Patrol Services and the Emergency Services Unit.

The suspect was tracked by Justice and located hiding in a vehicle in a garage on Gibbs Street. The male was taken into custody without incident at approximately 1:40 p.m. When officers searched the suspect they located 22.6 grams of cocaine on the male. The estimated street value of the drugs is $2,320. A baseball bat believed to have been used in the assault was also located by officers during the track.

Due to the time of day and weapons related comments and assault, a Code Green, was activated in the school system. A Code Green ensures that students do not leave the school due to a potential threat outside of the school.

33-year-old Edward Buckels of Winnipeg, Manitoba has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking  of a controlled drug or substance, one count of threaten to cause bodily harm, one count of threaten to cause death, one count of participate in activities of a criminal organization for the purpose of enhancing the ability of the said organization, one count of break and enter and commit the offence of obstruct police and one count of assault police.

33-year-old Tanya Valentine of no fixed address has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of threaten to cause bodily harm and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. 

Both persons will appear in bail court this morning.

44-year-old William Daigle of Albert St West was arrested and charged with theft and breach of probation after selecting three Blue Ray videos valued at $102.87 in WalMart. He made his way to the washrooms where he opened the videos and exited the store without paying. He will appear in court on April 28, 2014.

27-year-old Bobbi-Jean Otakwadjiwan of Batchewana St. was arrested and charged with theft after shoplifting several packages of meat at Romes. Value of the items was $85.67. She will also appear in court on April 28, 2014.

22-year-old Joseph Sauve of Old Goulais Bay Road was arrested and charged with impaired driving and having more than 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood after officers observed a Pontiac Sunfire proceeding westbound the wrong way on Albert St. West, turn northbound on Andrew Street; again the wrong way on a one way street. He was found to be in an intoxicated condition and arrested. He will appear in court on May 5, 2014.

A male youth is in custody attending bail court this morning charged with mischief and threatening after damaging his residence and uttering threats to a female who resides there.
