Update to Fatal Motorcycle Collision – Victim Identified:

The victim has been identified as 36 year-old Manuel Carpinteiro of 17 Lasalle Court, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario:

Traffic Investigators have left the scene at Wellington Street West and Lyons Avenue and are advising that the road is now open to regular traffic. They would like to thank the public for all their patience and cooperation.

Preliminary Investigation indicates that at approximately 6:24 am on the 12th of June, the Yamaha motorcycle was travelling southbound on Wellington Street West and it appears that the driver failed to negotiate the turn, left the roadway and struck a cement structure located on the northeast boulevard of the curve area at the corner of Lyons Avenue and Wellington Street West.

The investigation is continuing and the Post Mortem is scheduled for this afternoon in Sault Ste. Marie to determine the victim’s cause of death.

UPDATE: Motorcycle Collision on Wellington Street West and Lyons Avenue:

On the 12th of June at approximately 6:24 am the Sault Ste Marie Police Service received a report of a single vehicle collision involving a motorcycle at Wellington Street West at Lyons Avenue. The operator of the motorcycle, a 36 year-old local man, had been transported by ambulance to Sault Area Hospital with major injuries and has succumbed to those injuries. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Traffic Services are still on scene and Wellington Street West from Old Wallace Terrace to Lyons Avenue remains closed at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and there are no further details to be released at this time.


Fail To Provide Breath Sample & Breach

22 year-old Joshua Dumanski of 51 Sherwood Parkway was arrested on the 12th of June at 3:38 am on Great Northern Road and charged with one count of Fail to Provide Breath Sample and one count of Breach of Probation. It is alleged that on the 12th of June around 3:29 am city police received a call regarding beer cans being thrown out of the windows of a Pontiac Vehicle being operated on Great Northern Road. The vehicle was stopped in a parking lot of the Shell Gas Station and at the time it is alleged that the driver, the accused was found to be under the influence of alcohol and several beer cans were observed on the front seat. The accused failed to provide a breath sample on the road side screening device and at the time he was on probation He is to appear in court on the 13th of July.

Theft Under $5,000

24 year-old Raya Desmond of 182 Dennis Street was charged with one count of theft under $5,000.00 on the 11th of June at 3:55 pm at Zellers in the Station Mall after she allegedly attended at the store around 3 pm and stole some clothing. She was apprehended by store security and held for police. She is to appear in court on the 6th of July.

Youth Arrested

A second youth was also arrested on the 10th of June and charged with one count of break, enter and commit involving the home under construction on East Balfour on 30th-31st of May. It is alleged that this 13 year-old male youth and the 14 year-old male youth (released to media yesterday) broke into the new home that is being constructed by St. Mary’s College students and stole some building materials. The 13 year-old appeared in bail court yesterday. The 14 year-old is to appear in court on the 14th of July.

Theft Reports:


• Vehciles were entered ON Parker Avenue, Shannon Road and Danby Road. Items stolen included a Digital Camera, a car stereo, change and some groceries.
• Bicycles were stolen on Greenfield Drive – blue Supercycle, Albert Street West - red and silver CCM Rip Tide 18-speed, Wellington Street East -18-speed Raleigh Summit Mountain Bike.
• St. Georges Avenue – blue and yellow Mongoose 21-speed Mountain Bike.

Mischief Reports:

• A residence window on Wallace Terrace was damaged by the shot of a pellet gun.
• Graffito was left on the sidewalk area on Henrietta Avenue near Patrick Street.
• A front bug deflector of a vehicle parked on McMeekin Street was smashed.
