Detectives with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service's Drug Enforcement Unit have charged a 26-year-old with a trio of drug trafficking charges in connection with a firearms incident from Nov. 15.
On Nov. 15, detectives executed a search warrant at the accused's residence after police say they received a report of the accused being in possession of firearms.
"A search of the accused’s trailer located a loaded handgun and a shotgun," a release from police said.
During the search, police say officers saw a quantity of drugs, stopped searching and applied for a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant.
Detectives with the Drug Enforcement Unit executed the warrant on Nov. 16 and found approximately 27 grams of suspected methamphetamine, approximately 57 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 191 grams of suspected fentanyl, rifle ammunition, drug packaging material, a cutting agent, and a money counter. The total estimated street value of drugs seized is approximately $37,245.
Yesterday, Nicholas Berto was charged with:
- possession of Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking (x3)
The accused continues to be held in custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre.
