Cops clock driver speeding through Garden River at almost twice the limit

Thunder Bay resident's vehicle impounded for 14 days, licence suspended for 30 days

GARDEN RIVER – If you're thinking of roaring through Garden River on the newly-paved stretch of highway, you might want to think again.

Anishinabek Police with the Garden River Detachment say they were conducting mobile radar on Hwy 17B in Garden River First Nation on Dec. 16 at 6 a.m. when they detected a vehicle travelling 136 km/h in what is a 70 km/h zone.

The driver, a 19-year-old from Thunder Bay, was charged with stunt driving, Anishinabek Police said in a news release.

His vehicle was impounded for 14 days and his driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days, police said.

Police did not release the driver's name.
