A suspected shoplifter carrying crystal methamphetamine was arrested at a local business Monday night.

At around 6:10 p.m., a person phoned 911 to report a robbery in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road. When officers arrived, the suspect was being held by security officers.

“An investigation revealed the accused had attempted to leave the business without paying for several items and, when approached by security, became aggressive and pushed them,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

A search of the suspect turned up a small quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine, police say.

Jeffery Nakogee, 38, is charged with robbery and possession of a Schedule I substance.

He was released on an undertaking and is due back in court on Feb. 24, 2025.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Nakogee is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
