The Rotary Santa Claus Parade being held on Saturday, Nov. 23 will require some road closures.
Starting at 4:30 p.m. Queen Street East will be shut from Elizabeth Street to Church Street, including lower Church Street (south of Queen Street), says a news release from Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. This area will be used as a staging area for the parade and will be closed until around 8 p.m.
Lower Church Street will be closed at 4:30 p.m., re-opening to traffic around 8 p.m. The parade route (lower Pim Street to Bay Street to Andrew Street) will be closed at 5:30 p.m. and will re-open when the parade is over.
To keep the parade route free from obstructions, there will be limited access to St. Mary’s River Drive and Foster Drive starting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday., the release added. Any vehicle found on the parade route after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday will be towed.
Residents should expect traffic delays in the downtown core for the duration of the parade. There will be an increased number of pedestrians in the area as well, and we urge motorists to be vigilant and drive with caution when making their way to the parade route.
