Break and enter leads to charges for 2, including resident

A resident of the home is facing a drug charge while a 30-year-old from Brampton is facing weapons and drug charges

Police seized a taser during a break and enter investigation on Grandriver Crescent on Jan. 31, 2023.

Police have charged two people in connection with a break and enter at a residence on Grandriver Crescent on Tuesday.

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a break and enter call in the 0-100 block of Grandriver Crescent at approximately 1 p.m.

A suspect was identified leaving the area on foot and was subsequently arrested.

Police say Stephanie Hopkinson, 30, of Brampton, Ont. was found to be in possession of a conductive energy weapon, also known as a taser, approximately 32 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl, approximately 40 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and 5 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine and has been charged with:

  • unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x2)
  • possession of a controlled substance
  • fail to comply with release order (x4)

Further investigation led to Daniel Chiasson, 40, who lives at the residence, being in possession of a quantity of a substance believe to be cocaine and has been arrested as well and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
