Numerous charges follow downtown assault

On May 25, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 43-year-old Ilario Filice of Dennis Street in relation to a break and enter and assault.

It is alleged that around 8 p.m. on May 25, the accused approached a male and female victim that were not known to him in the downtown area. The accused engaged in a verbal argument with the victims and (allegedly) assaulted them by punching and kicking them.

The victims left the area and the accused followed them to the 200 block of Albert Street West. Once the victims were inside of their residence, the accused is alleged to have forced the door open. 

The accused then (allegedly) pushed another victim that was inside the residence and then chased the male victim around the apartment while carrying a screwdriver and a knife.

The accused is further alleged to have attended another apartment in the building and entered that apartment while the occupant was inside. Once inside, the accused caused damage to various items and attempted to steal various others.

Police were contacted and the accused was quickly taken into custody. The accused has been charged with:

  • One count of break and enter/commit theft,
  • Two counts of break and enter/committing mischief,
  • One count of break and enter/committing assault,
  • Two counts of assault,
  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and;
  • One count of breach of probation

He was held for bail.
