An assault charge against a Garden River First Nation councillor has been withdrawn in the Ontario Court of Justice following a hearing held Tuesday.

Kristy Dawn Jones was charged with a single count of assault by Anishinabek Police Service on Jan. 8 following an alleged incident that took place on Christmas Day of last year.

The 48-year-old will be subject to a peace bond for the next 12 months after having the lone criminal charge against her dropped.

Jones must not communicate or interfere with the alleged victim, nor possess any weapons while the peace bond is in effect.

The elected council member must also pledge $500, without deposit or surety, in the event she breaks any of the conditions of the peace bond.
