Altercation at local business leads to assault charges for two Sault residents

Business owner is alleged to have been struck in the face and midsection

On March 9, 2019, officers with the Community Oriented Response and Enforcement Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 28-year-old Tyler Taylor of Grosvenor Avenue and 18-year-old Kassandra Mayhem-Bene of Northern Avenue with assault.

It’s alleged on Feb. 24, 2019, both accused attended a business in the 200 block of Northern Avenue. While there, an argument took place between the male accused and the owner of the business. A physical altercation ensued where it’s alleged the male accused struck the victim in the face, and the female accused hit the victim in the midsection.

Mr. Taylor is charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of probation, while Ms. Mayhem-Bene is charged with one count of assault. Both are scheduled to appear in court on April 15, 2019.
