36-year-old charged after driver found impaired in snowbank

Sault Ste. Marie Police charged a 36-year-old man with impaired driving over the weekend.

On Jan. 4, at around 9:50 a.m., 911 received a call for a single motor vehicle collision in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Trunk Road.

The driver allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel.

Officers were sent to the scene where they found the vehicle in a snowbank.

Police spoke with the driver and found their ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drugs, a release said. They were then arrested and sent to a hospital where they provided a blood sample for screening.

Steven Lesage of Garden River is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - drugs and/or alcohol
  • Driving while under suspension (under the Highway Traffic Act)

Lesage has been released on an appearance notice and is scheduled for a court appearance on March 3.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Lesage is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
