On Thursday, Sault Police officers charged a 31-year-old man with assault with a weapon.
Back on Oct. 22, a 911 caller reported a victim who was assaulted in the 0-100 block of Wellington Street East, police said in a release.
“An investigation revealed the accused, who is unknown to the victim, attacked the victim by punching and kicking them to the ground while brandishing a knife,” police said.
“The victim sustained minor physical injuries. A warrant was obtained for the accused’s arrest.”
At around 6:45 p.m. yesterday, officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Peoples Road at Elliot Road.
The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Joshua Roess, who was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing. None of the allegations have been tested in court and Roess is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
