SooToday presents Big Brothers Big Sisters with a $7,900 cheque.

Summer is meant to be a fun time for kids.

But without services provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters, some youth in our community may not have the opportunity to engage in mentorship programs that are crucial for youth development.

With this in mind, SooToday embarked on a campaign to raise much-needed funds for our local Big Brothers Big Sisters branch with an online fundraising drive - and we asked you, our loyal readers, to help us.

The online fundraiser was simple. SooToday pledged to match community donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters made through our online pop-up store.

But that’s not all.

We were able to leverage the power of our community to make the donations even bigger by asking our local business partners to match our donation.

Algoma Steel, ARAUCO, Bob Dionisi & Sons, Brokerlink Sault Ste. Marie, Construction Equipment Co., Daniel J. Fremlin Building Group, Dawson & Keenan Insurance, GFL Environmental, Henderson Metal, Machine Shop, Northside Auto Group, Once Upon a Child, Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation, Rome’s Your Independent Grocer, Savoy’s Jewellers, Sparkle Kleen Inc., Superior Staff-It, Winexpert and Wishart Law Firm all answered the call.

With their support, and yours, every dollar donated through our pop-up store was matched with all proceeds going to our local Big Brothers Big Sisters.

In Sault Ste. Marie, the generosity of our readers and advertisers translated into a donation of $7,900 for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Thank you for helping us to strengthen our community and make this the best summer ever for local youth here in the Sault.
