BREAKING: Shoemaker wins in landslide

'To the people of Sault Ste. Marie, you have my eternal gratitude and my endless commitment,' says Shoemaker

With all vote tabulators counted, Matthew Shoemaker is officially Sault Ste. Marie's next mayor.

The Ward 3 councillor beat Ozzie Grandinetti 9,626 to 5,417.

"To the people of Sault Ste. Marie, you have my eternal gratitude and my endless commitment. We ran a good campaign, and we made it across the finish line because of the support you gave me," said Shoemaker. "I will work tirelessly on the next council to make our city the best it can be. "I will give it my all in the next four years. Tomorrow, the real work begins. But until then, let's enjoy tonight and celebrate a great success."

Donna Hilsinger, Shoemaker's ward mate, landed close behind in third spot with 4,047.

Robert Peace and Tobin Kern bring up the rear with 2,007 and 665 votes respectively.
