A single-vehicle crash overnight north of the city has led to impaired charges against a Garden River resident.

Shortly after midnight, The Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police, Sault Ste. Marie Paramedic Services and Goulais Fire Department responded to the crash, which happened on Highway 17 and Anglican Church Road in Fenwick Township.

Police say a vehicle "failed to negotiate a right-hand-turn, went through a wooden guardrail, landing on the wheels of a steep embankment."

The driver and passenger did not suffer any life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

While speaking with the driver, officers suspected the person had consumed alcohol.

Alexandra Nolan, 19, from Garden River First Nation is charged with:

  • operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

The car was towed and impounded for seven days and the driver was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension.
