VIDEO: Small fire, lots of smoke at OFRI

Overheated electrical panel to blame

Sault Fire Services were called to the scene of a fire at the Ontario Forest Research Institute (OFRI) at 1235 Queen Street East at approximately 8 p.m. Saturday.

The fire was caused by an overheated electrical panel, said Damon Ferris, Sault Fire Services Platoon Chief.

The fire itself was small and was quickly extinguished, but Sault Fire Services remained on scene for three hours ventilating the building.

"It created quite a bit of smoke," Ferris told SooToday.

Four pumper trucks, a rescue truck and a command vehicle were at the scene of the fire.

Three employees at OFRI were evacuated.

There were no injuries.

The fire is not considered suspicious in nature.
