As TULLOCH reveals its newly renovated office space at 71 Black Road in Sault Ste. Marie, this event marks more than a return to a familiar location; it signifies an ongoing commitment to the region and a celebration of the company's growth over the past three decades.

TULLOCH was founded in 1991 in Thessalon, Ontario, by visionary leader Mike Tulloch and a small team consisting of Eric Ableson, Len Ivison, Tim Jones, Kevin King, Pat King, Lloyd Martin, and Marshall Thompson, all of whom either still work at TULLOCH or retired as members of the organization.

Since its founding 33 years ago, TULLOCH has developed into a nationally recognized multi-disciplinary consulting engineering firm with offices across Ontario and Alberta, and recently opened its first office in the United States. Now led by Mike’s sons, Mark and Dave, the firm boasts a diverse team of technical professionals across a variety of disciplines, including civil, structural, industrial, environmental, geotechnical and geomatics engineering, as well as land use planning, surveying and mapping, contract administration, and materials testing. The organization is deeply rooted in the principles of hard work, continuous innovation, family values, a people-first culture, and a commitment to the communities they serve.

TULLOCH’s purpose is to build an organization where everyone loves their job, and their leaders care for them.

Strategic Expansion Through Acquisitions

TULLOCH’s growth trajectory has been marked by strategic acquisitions, significantly boosting its capacity to address a range of markets throughout North America. In Sault Ste. Marie, notable acquisitions include William E. Bolan Surveying, M.R. Wright and Associates, and STEM Engineering.

The merger of these firms has substantially diversified TULLOCH's service offerings. These mergers, along with further expansion throughout Canada, have strengthened TULLOCH’s presence in critical markets, including Transportation, Community Development, Energy, and Mining, enhancing the firm's regional and national prominence.

Commitment to Staff Well-Being

TULLOCH's dedication to its workforce is exemplified by unique benefits like company-sponsored family vacations, which reward and recognize employees' resilience against the logistical challenges of working in remote locations. These benefits contribute to a high retention rate, boost morale, and nurture a supportive working environment, echoing the family-like ethos TULLOCH has cherished since its inception.

Recent corporate highlights include the firm being recognized locally as the “Employer of the Year” from the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce in 2023, along with two of Canada’s most prestigious business designations, including being named one of “Canada’s Best Managed Companies” and “Best Workplaces in Canada.”

Senior Designer Kevin Nott said this about the company, “Working at TULLOCH for the past 24 years has been a pleasure. I have worked as part of the geomatics and engineering teams in two different offices, and one thing remains the same: the camaraderie among co-workers. I have battled through bouts of cancer on multiple occasions, and the organization, leadership group and my colleagues have been there for me through it all. I have been given time off when needed, financial support through company-wide fundraising efforts, and offered encouragement from employees across different disciplines, teams, and office locations.”
