The Soo is tuning up for a night of music with two of Canada’s premier tribute bands, as Fleetwood Nicks and Practically Petty hit the stage at the Machine Shop on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The doors will swing open at 6:30 PM, with the music beginning at 7:30 PM.

The event is a fundraiser in support of the THRIVE Child Development Centre Foundation. THRIVE provides rehabilitation services and related support to children and youth with diverse abilities and their families.

One of twenty-one children’s treatment centres across Ontario, THRIVE supports children and youth from 0–18 years of age who are impacted by differences in physical, perceptual, communication, and/or developmental trajectories.

Toronto-based Fleetwood Nicks takes audiences on a journey through a classic setlist of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks' solo hits, and the songstress’s mid-eighties collaborations with rocker Tom Petty.

Anna Leeming, the artist behind Fleetwood Nicks, has been described as a “dead ringer for the young Stevie” and captures the mystique and charm of the performer with passion and authenticity.

Songs like “Dreams” from the 1977 Fleetwood Mac album Rumours and “Edge of Seventeen”, from Nicks’s 1981 release Bella Donna cemented her atop the list of iconic rock stars.

Erin Lasky, portraying Christine McVie, adds another layer to the Fleetwood Nicks experience. Her rendition of “Songbird” has been a mainstay on the band’s setlist and displays Lasky’s talents as a vocalist.

Since 2009, Practically Petty has been bringing audiences the classic sounds of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Every Practically Petty concert is a tribute to the late singer, and the band prides itself on its authentic recreation of the Heartbreakers’ legendary music.

They’ve even outfitted themselves with the same instruments the Heartbreakers used during their massive run of rock hits from the late seventies into the mid-nineties.

Practically Petty’s extensive song catalogue includes all of the singer’s hits with the Heartbreakers, as well as his solo work and side projects, like Traveling Wilburys.

Beyond the music and nostalgia, this concert serves a great cause, allowing children and youth with diverse abilities to reach beyond what is expected toward the extraordinary.

The THRIVE Foundation supports the creation of practical solutions to help children and young people be the best that they can be. The Foundation plays a key stewardship role in supporting the Centre’s space, equipment, and special program needs.

Many of the children, youth, and families who receive support through THRIVE have been touched by donors’ generosity through the use of specialized physiotherapy equipment, assistive communication devices, the equipment within the centre’s Play & Exploration Room, and a welcoming and accessible Centre.
