Soo Medical Supplies opened three years ago at the start of the pandemic, but many people in Sault Ste. Marie may not be familiar with what they offer. The retail store sells a wide range of home care medical and mobility supplies, everything from diagnostics such blood pressure machines and thermometers, to safety items for the bathroom and bedroom.
Their biggest demand is for mobility items such as walkers, canes, and reachers. Manager, Ada Mair wants the community to know that they are there to help. “I want people to know that this is a safe place, and people don’t have to fear asking embarrassing questions. I will do my best to find what they are looking for even if I need to send them to another retailer.”
Customers always come first
Ada and her staff, Kerry and Julie, pride themselves on offering the best customer service possible. “I want customers to feel comfortable when they walk in the door. I will help them find whatever they need to make their lives easier.”
They may not always have the product or even the answers, but they will find someone who does.
Caring for the caregivers
As a cancer survivor herself, Ada Mair experienced first-hand the struggles of not only going through treatment, but the aftermath of being a survivor. She says, “I never saw my mom, who was my rock, or any other family member break down during my treatments. It wasn’t until after treatment was finished that I realized it wasn’t just about me, cancer affected everyone around me.” It’s the reason my heart goes out not only to the patient but also to the caregivers. They have so much on their plate physically and emotionally. It’s not uncommon for caregivers to break down in the store because they are so overwhelmed.
The staff at Soo Medical Services will lend a sympathetic ear to caregivers who want to talk about their frustrations and fears. Ada says, “We want people to come in and feel comfortable about sharing a story about their challenges. If you want to cry, this is the place to do it. We are here to listen.”
Ensuring a comfortable experience
Soo Medical Supplies offers products for a wide range of needs for people being cared for at home. Whether it’s a need for post-surgical products, cancer care, elder care, or simply enhancing home safety, Soo Medical Supplies can help.
Ada Mair is inviting people who haven’t yet been to the store to come in and look around. If people have mobility issues, staff will bring the supplies to the vehicle. They offer 10% off ostomy supplies and free delivery for purchases over $50 for those who live in the Sault area. They will accept the return of unused medical supplies so that they can be donated to a few charities in the Toronto area.
Soo Medical Services is open Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. They are located at 656 Great Northern Road in Sault Ste. Marie and can be reached at (705) 574-0228
