These days the local pharmacy plays an absolutely central role in the community. It has grown from a place that simply dispenses medications to one that meets a number of essential needs.

That has certainly been the experience for West End Pharmasave. The store on Second Line West, owned by Jordan Jack and John Stefano, recently underwent a substantial expansion, fully doubling its floor space.

“We’ve doubled in size to accommodate our growing staff,” explains Jordan, illustrating the increase in demand for their services.

The expansion provides more room for the pharmacy’s walk-in clinic, which will benefit both patients and staff.

Another advantage is that they now have extra space to display merchandising. “The expansion has allowed us to increase the different types of things that we carry,” says Jordan. “We now have toys and games, including a wide selection of Melissa and Doug toys, as well as Sault Ste. Marie’s largest selection of puzzles.”

A personal favorite of Jack’s is the new gender reveal fireworks that have just arrived. They fire off twenty shots, alternating pink and blue fireworks, with a grand finale gender reveal. “We’ve had a few new babies from staff members recently and it seems that everybody loves a good gender reveal spectacular,” says Jordan.

John prefers the model rockets. West End Pharmasave now carries model rockets that can launch up to 350 metres in the air, more than half the height of the CN tower! “I’m really looking forward to testing out our new products this summer,” says John.

This speaks to the way people use pharmacies these day—and have really embraced them. You can get medical care, a COVID vaccine, chat with the pharmacy team and buy your prescriptions, shop for a wide range of personal care essentials, snacks, gift items and educational toys for the children in your life.

Before this latest renovation the shop was 2,000 square feet in size, now it’s 4,000. When the store first opened there were just three employees: Jordan, John and one pharmacy assistant, Patty, crammed into under 1,000 square feet. Over the years the number of staff has grown to include five full-time and five part-time staff.

“Because we are growing so quickly, when one of our staff members who is away on maternity leave returns later this year, we wouldn’t have had space for her to work if we didn’t expand. We’re adding roughly one new full-time staff member every year!” says Jordan.

This is the third expansion West End Pharmasave has undergone in just eight years—proof positive that it serves as a bustling hub in the community and continues its dedication to doing its job well. The owners are happy to provide these much-needed services to area residents, whom they consider family, and they enjoy giving back.

The pharmacy is the title sponsor of “Sister Act: The Musical”, which will be running from Wednesday, March 30 to Saturday April 2, 2022 at the Sault Community Theatre Centre. Part of the West End Theatre Project, the play is filled with dancing, powerful gospel music and a truly moving story. Order your tickets here and be sure to mark it on your calendar.
