Time to refresh your bathroom? You can get a great-looking space with modern fixtures and features while minding the bottom line.

We spoke to Teresa from Heritage Home Hardware for budget-friendly bathroom remodelling advice. She shared tips on flooring, lighting, and colour suggestions. You can update this space without the time or money for a full renovation.

Some updates are more cost-friendly. Refresh your bathroom with easy, inexpensive updates like new paint, lighting, and accessories. You can also find cost-effective fixture and flooring options for a new look.

Make a plan and a budget

Create and stick to a budget. Remodels can easily get out of control without attention to detail. Start by identifying elements you’d like to replace and update or keep. For example: not adding a new tub, but buying a new shower curtain and bath mat, or replacing the shower head and faucet.

Install new bathroom flooring

Bathroom flooring can be budget-friendly! To keep costs down, choose vinyl flooring; it comes in many textures and colours and is water-resistant. Another advantage: it’s easier to lay down than tile, so you can do it yourself.

Choose a new bathroom vanity

To make a big impact, install a new bathroom vanity; it’s a guaranteed way to transform your bathroom. You can find stylish options at great prices. Look for a model that fits around your existing pipes to avoid needing a plumber. If your existing cabinet is in great shape, consider installing a new vanity top. For an entirely new look, choose a complete bathroom vanity with sink

Upgrade your bathroom lighting

This is one change you’ll wish you made sooner! Changing your bathroom lighting is a quick and inexpensive upgrade with significant impact. Choose a bathroom light fixture that uses the existing wiring. For warmth and ambiance, install a wall sconce. Gooseneck lighting looks stylish over the vanity. If your bathroom is small, opt for flush mount; if you have a higher ceiling, go for a mini-chandelier.

Put up a new bathroom mirror

If you've replaced your medicine cabinet, this is a great time to swap out your
vanity mirror too. Opt for a framed one—they’re always in style—in a round, oval, square, or rectangular design. Consider the finish; many come in unique options, from rustic wood to graphite and gold. Lighted bathroom mirrors are an excellent choice as they add warmth and are helpful when you are putting on makeup or shaving.

Install a new medicine cabinet

The bathroom medicine cabinet can have a big impact; it can even be the focal point. Choose one that matches your style, whether in bright colours or earthy wood grains, with curves or fun textures. Upgrade to a larger cabinet for ample space for vitamins, supplements, medications, and toiletries.

Install a new bathroom faucet

A new bathroom sink faucet is an overlooked update that enhances your vanity’s look without requiring plumbing work. Choose a colour and texture that match your other upgrades; chrome is classic and matte black is contemporary and sophisticated. Hands-free versions are convenient and can help reduce water usage.

Also consider these styles and finishes:

Swap out your shower fixtures

With an adjustable wrench and some plumber’s tape, you can probably replace your tub and shower faucets yourself. Choose from a wide variety of bathtub faucets options, including single-handle, two-handle, and freestanding styles.

Rainfall shower heads are popular because they let you enjoy the hotel/spa experience at home. Nothing beats a handheld shower head for convenience, versatility, and easy cleaning. For a uniform look, opt for a complete shower kit that includes a shower head, handle, and tub faucet.

Choose a new bathroom colour

The quickest way to refresh a tired space is to update the wall colour. An easy and inexpensive fix is bathroom paint in a new colour. For warmth, choose taupe; for a calm environment, light blue; or for an earthy vibe, browns and/or greens.
These bathroom colour ideas are even more fashionable: pistachio, light green, creamy white, bright white, cerulean blue, charcoal, and light grey.

Add new bathroom accessories

The most enjoyable part of redecorating a bathroom is picking new accessories to tie everything together. Choose colours that coordinate with your finishes and overall décor, and don’t be afraid to play with textures.

These items can add the finishing touch:

  • Soap dispenser
  • Soap dish
  • Toothbrush holder
  • Towel bars and rings
  • Toilet paper bar
  • Toilet brush
  • Towels
  • Trash can

Update your bathroom for a look you will love for years to come. With these tips, you can transform the space without spending too much.
