As an independent retailer, Due North Cannabis Co. has always been a champion for local business in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. For the month of April, the company is collaborating with other like-minded businesses on an initiative where customers will be the ultimate beneficiaries.
The 20 Days of Giveaways promotion is now underway at Due North Cannabis, and owner Rob Carroll says the promotion is perfectly aligned with the core pillars of his company’s brand.
“This will be the third anniversary of our “20 Days of Giveaways Event,” said Carroll.
"We recognized that our stores provided a large platform that could be used to benefit our community. Cannabis can be a force for good and we knew that getting active in our community would help fight the stigmas surrounding cannabis and cannabis use. The responses have been overwhelming, we have found the business community of the Soo to be extremely welcoming and open minded. We are all working together to support one another.”
Given how tightly regulated the legal cannabis industry can be, Carroll said that Due North Cannabis takes its social responsibility extremely seriously, especially when executing a no purchase contest that may attract first-time customers and curious users.
“We have a duty to our customers and the community of Sault Ste. Marie to ensure that cannabis does not fall into the hands of youth and is only sold with the highest regard for the law,” he said. “It is our duty to ensure that we provide the best knowledge to make the most informed choices possible. Many organizations pay lip service to community involvement, but we wanted to show our customers that local businesses can work together to support one another in a way that provides value to our customers and our local partners alike.”
The concept for the promotion is a simple one.
Throughout the month of April, Due North Cannabis will be collaborating with local companies to promote their products and services by giving away locally sourced prizes everyday. The in-house contest is for DNCC customers only with no purchase required to enter. The goal is to use the company’s online and in-store platforms to generate awareness for other local businesses in the community.
“There are many organizations out there that are too small to engage in large marketing campaigns, so we are able to provide the benefits of a large scale marketing campaign at very little cost, helping to balance the scales of small businesses competing with large corporate chains,” said Carroll.
With the influx of new products now available at Due North Cannabis, it’s a great time to visit the popular cannabis dispensary to talk with their budtenders, ask questions, and find the right product for your needs.
Like many industries where small, independent operators have to compete against giant multi-national conglomerates, the cannabis industry relies on the success of operations like Due North Cannabis. In fact, a 2021 study by Deloitte suggests that when it comes to new cannabis consumers, 82 percent prefer to shop in-store from legal sources. While price plays a role, consumers prefer to shop with those they know and trust with the majority of consumers preferring to shop at locally owned and operated dispensaries.
The contest is just one event on a busy calendar of events that see Due North Cannabis supporting the local community. Carroll said that in the coming months Due North will also be partnering with the Human Society and Algoma Veterans Association to raise funds, bring awareness and provide volunteer opportunities for staff and customers.
“Connecting with local organizations and collaborating on initiatives that benefit the entire community is an important part of who we are as a company,” he said. “We are proud to be the Soo’s #1 choice for cannabis education, products and accessories and we are proud of the fact that we are built by the Soo for the Soo.”
