Friday the 13th was far from lucky for the Powassan Voodoos on Friday night.
The Soo Eagles got a pair of goals from Brendan Schultz along with a 29-save performance from Kade Phipps to lead them to a 4-1 triumph over the Powassan Voodoos Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Pullar Stadium to put an end to Powassan’s impressive 26-game unbeaten streak.
Having gone 25-0-1-0 during their solid run, the last loss by the Voodoos prior to tonight was all the way back on October 11th when they were edged 4-3 by the Iroquois Falls Eskis at the NOJHL Showcase in Sudbury.
After a scoreless first period, Sault Ste. Marie picked up the lone tally of the second stanza as Bradley Hofelich collected his 18th of the season at 12:39.
The Eagles then went up by two near the eight-minute mark of the third on a Nate Harris effort.
Powassan got that back while on the power play with just over seven minutes left in the contest as Parker Bowman notched his eighth of the campaign.
However, the Soo came right back with a man advantage effort of their own compliments of Schultz a couple shifts later.
The Eagles forward then added one more 11 seconds after that to round out the scoring.
Nate McDonald suffered the loss for the Voodoos facing 31 shots along the way in defeat.
The Voodoos hope to start a new winning streak on Saturday night when they face the Soo Thunderbirds.
