ECHO BAY DEER APPEAR TO HAVE THE NINE LIVES OF A CAT

(Echo Bay, Ont.) A deer appears to have escaped death after being hit by a vehicle on Gordon Lake Road last night.

Last night at about 9:30 p.m. a motorist was traveling on Gordon Lake Road north of Echo Bay. A deer ran into the path of the vehicle and was struck by the vehicle. The driver reports last seeing the deer running full tilt back into the bush.

The vehicle did have enough damage that a traffic report was required to be filled out. The driver was not injured and no tow truck was needed.

UPDATE: SERIOUS COLLISION SENDS THREE TO HOSPITAL

Denver Stone (56) of Sudbury, Ontario was the driver of the Toyota Echo involved in the collision on Highway 17 east of Thessalon, Ontario on Sunday November 25, 2007.

Mr. Stone remains in Sault Area Hospital in serious condition after undergoing surgery.


(Highway 17, Huron Shores Township, Ontario) On Sunday November 25, 2007 at approximately 6:15 p.m. the East Algoma OPP were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 approximately 10 kilometers east of Thessalon, Ontario.

A Toyoto Echo traveling eastbound struck a raccoon on the roadway and lost control. The motor vehicle then hit the right shoulder and spun around on the roadway entering the path of a westbound Ford minivan. The Ford minivan struck the Toyota Echo, demolishing both vehicles.

The driver of the Ford minivan, Michael Kordupel (57) and his passenger Sharron Kordupel (50) both of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario were transported to the Thessalon Hospital for minor injuries and released.

The driver of the Toyota Echo was taken by ambulance to the Thessalon Hospital and then transferred to the Sault Area Hospital with serious injuries. The driver sustained several broken bones and is scheduled for surgery. The drivers name will not be released until Tuesday November 27, 2007 at the request of the family.

At the time of the collision the road conditions were good.

NUMEROUS COLLISIONS DURING SNOWFALL

(East Algoma OPP – Thessalon Detachment) On Tuesday November 27, 2007 the snowfall played havoc with area drivers.

The East Algoma Thessalon Detachment responded to 5 collisions during the morning and early afternoon.

On Highway 17, approximately 4 kilometers east of Bruce Mines a tractor trailer was traveling east bound when it rear ended a pickup truck. The tractor trailer then swerved out into the westbound lane colliding with a westbound tractor trailer. The westbound tractor trailer ended up in the ditch with extensive damage. All three drivers were not injured. The westbound tractor trailer remains in the ditch. It will be removed once the weather improves.

On Highway 17, 3 kilometers west of Thessalon, two motor vehicles ended up in the ditches with 2 people from Sault Ste. Marie being sent to the Thessalon Hospital by ambulance. Both were released with minor injuries.

On Highway 17, 3 kilometers east of Bruce Mines a tractor trailer jackknifed and ended up traveling the opposite direction. The tractor trailer was able to remain on the highway with only damage to the trailer. The driver was not injured.

On Highway 638 and Highway 129, two additional motor vehicle collisions were reported with property damage. No injuries were sustained.

The OPP want to remind drivers to adjust their driving to the road and weather conditions.
