ROBBERY PREVENTION KIT AVAILABLE!
(Elliot Lake, Ontario) The East Algoma OPP in Elliot Lake is currently visiting businesses in the Elliot Lake area and introducing a Robbery Prevention Kit.
The robbery prevention program being offered is simply good business practice. A safe store is attractive to customers, more pleasant for you and discouraging to robbers.
Here are a few ideas to consider:
- Avoid window displays and closed drapes or blinds, which obscure a view of the interior.
- Consider installing an alarm. Surveillance cameras are a good deterrent and provide valuable evidence if a robbery occurs.
- Don’t argue and do exactly as the robber asks. Memorize the robber’s description in detail. Write it down as soon as possible without jeopardizing your safety.
- When the robber has left the business, lock the door and call 9-1-1. Do not let anyone leave or enter the business until police arrival.
If you have not received a visit from the OPP and wish to receive a Robbery Prevention Kit, please contact the Community Services Bureau
