STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED (Elliot Lake, Ontario) On May 12th, 2009 at 12:22 a.m. police received a call from a resident on McKeown Rd in Elliot Lake reporting that her vehicle had just been stolen from the driveway of her residence.
STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERED

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) On May 12th, 2009 at 12:22 a.m. police received a call from a resident on McKeown Rd in Elliot Lake reporting that her vehicle had just been stolen from the driveway of her residence.

Patrols for the vehicle were made and a short time later the vehicle was spotted on Hillside Drive South. The vehicle came to a stop at the access road to the water towers and the driver then ran abandoning the vehicle.

The vehicle was recovered and investigation is continuing.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(CHAPLEAU) –On May 12, 2009 at 6:43 am on Highway 129 Dupuis Twp., a tractor trailer driver sustained minor injuries when he swerved to avoid striking a bear. The 2003 Kenworth then left the roadway entering the ditch causing considerable damage to the vehicle.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(WAWA) – On May 12, 2009 at 11:18 pm on Highway 17 Tiernan Twp., near Red Rock Lake a Pontiac Vibe came into contact with a moose causing damage to the vehicle and minor injuries to the driver.

R.I.D.E. – As a result of several RIDE checks throughout the Superior East patrol area, 284 vehicles were checked resulting in 1 Highway Traffic Act warning being issued. No other infractions were noted.

The OPP again wish to remind motorists to use extra caution while travelling our roadways as wild animals such as moose and bear are appearing throughout the area on a regular basis.

GOLF COURSE VICTIM OF BREAK ENTER AND THEFT

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) May 9, 2009 at approximately 9:30 a.m. the East Algoma OPP attended the StoneRidge Golf Course in Elliot Lake regarding a possible break enter and theft.

On scene police learned that the culprit(s) had entered the pro shop area by smashing a window from the dining area. Upon checking the area an employee noted that several clothing items had been moved around and may be missing.

A list of stolen items was not available at the time of this report.

POLICE INVESTIGATING SEVERAL MISCHIEF IN OUR COMMMUNITY

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating several mischief complaints received in the last week.

On May 7th, 2009 a resident of Canberra Crescent in Elliot Lake reported that sometime between 11:00 p.m. on May 6th, 2009 and 1:00 p.m. on May 7th, 2009 unknown person(s) slashed a tire on his vehicle.

Also between May 7th, 2009 at 9:40 p.m. and May 8th, 2009 at 7:00 a.m. unknown person(s) shattered a window at the Adult Education Centre on Roman Avenue in Elliot Lake.

Damage to a chimney from a business was reported to police on May 8th, 2009. Police learned that unknown culprit(s) attempted to climb up on to the roof by using a vent pipe at Cheers on 5 Mountain Road in Elliot Lake. Damage to the vent pipe was considerable.

On May 12th, 2009 at approximately 10:20 p.m. police received a call regarding youths spray painting in the area of a local high school on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake. Police attended the area but could not locate the culprits. The area was checked and police noted that the north side of the school had been spray-painted and some nim bins. Also spray-painted was the west side of the school and some concrete barricades.

The cost of repairing damage caused by mischief is not only a burden for the victim but also to the community. Let’s be a good neighbour and report any suspicious activities in your neighbourhood, call police.

TOOLS STOLEN FROM CONSTRUCTION TRAILER

(Ryan Twp., ON) – A construction trailer located at Pancake Bay was reported broken into overnight on Monday, 11th, May, 2009. A worker noticed the break in yesterday morning.

Suspect(s) unknown broke the lock on the trailer door.

Stolen items included a drill, a nakita grinder and a harness chipper.

DRIVER IN STABLE CONDITON AFTER HEAD ON COLLISION WITH MOOSE

(Garden River, ON) – OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a car and a moose at 4:30 am this morning.

A silver 4 door Acura TSX was travelling eastbound on the four lanes on Highway 17 when it collided with a pregnant cow moose that had travelled onto the highway.

The driver and single occupant of the vehicle, a 43 year old male from Thornhill, Ontario was transported to hospital by ambulance and is listed in stable condition.

The vehicle was demolished.

The moose and the calf did not survive.

**UPDATE**

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) May 8th, 2009 the owner of the dog attended the OPP Detachment in Elliot Lake to advise police he was the owner of the unidentified dog. The owner reported to police that the dog had been ill then died and he had wanted to give it a proper burial but was very upset and had left the area.

No further police action.

POLICE REQUESTING ASSISTING FROM THE PUBLIC

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating the discovery of a dead dog.

On May 6th, 2009 at approximately 6:15 p.m. police received a call to attend the ATV trail off Esten Lake Boat launch regarding a deceased dog. Approximately 200 yards on the trail the officer located a deceased female Golden Labrador Retriever, approximately 2 years of age. The dog was found lying on a blanket. The blanket was blue/grey in color with a picture of two wolves sitting on a rock. There did not appear to be any trauma to the body or head of the animal and it may have been at this location for a few days. The dog did have a choke chain collar with no dog tag.
