CLOSE CALL FOR GOULAIS RIVER RESIDENT

Goulais River, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP and the Goulais River Fire and Rescue Department were called to the house fire on Goulais Mission Road yesterday afternoon.

At about 2:45 p.m. yesterday a resident in the 2000 area of Goulais Mission Road was at home when he noticed an unusual amount of smoke in the house. The owner went down to the basement and immediately saw more smoke and a small fire in the ceiling. He called the fire department but was successful in putting the fire out himself.

The fire department arrived and an inspection of the house found a fault in the chimney. Fire officials found that the chimney flue had a break in it and caused the fire.

There was minimal damage to the house.
