OPP INVESTIGATE IPODS STOLEN FROM ARENA On Tuesday the 06th March 2007 at 5:30 pm Manitoulin OPP were called to the Gore Bay arena as two players with the Peewee hockey team had their Ipods stolen from the dressing room.

OPP INVESTIGATE IPODS STOLEN FROM ARENA

On Tuesday the 06th March 2007 at 5:30 pm Manitoulin OPP were called to the Gore Bay arena as two players with the Peewee hockey team had their Ipods stolen from the dressing room. The players had left their personal belongings in the dressing room when someone entered and removed the ipods. The value of the ipods is in the hundreds of dollars. If anyone has any information about this crime they are asked to call police or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).


COTTAGE DISTROYED IN BREAK & ENTER

On Sunday the 11th March 2007 at 8:33 pm Manitoulin OPP officers were called to a cottage break and enter located on North Channel Drive just outside of Little Current. A caretaker of the property discovered the break and enters and called police. Police arrived to find the cottage had been forcibly entered and extensive damage done to the insides. The contents of the cottage were destroyed like a TV, dishes smashed. Physical damage like knives thrown into the walls, windows broken, a fire extinguisher discharged, and an axe had been struck into a freezer. The complete inside of the cottage had been ransacked and the damage is estimated to be in the thousands of dollars. Police are conducting their investigation into this crime. Constable Allan Boyd Community Services Officer for the Manitoulin OPP reports that police on the island have not seen this type of senseless vandalism done for a long time. It appears that alcohol is a factor in this case and the culprits may be teenagers. It appears that the culprits may have been operating snow machines. The investigation is continuing with assistance from our Crime of Scenes Officer. SNOWMOBILE CHECK LEADS TO CRIMINAL CHARGES

On Monday the 12th March 2007 at 7:21 pm Manitoulin OPP officers stopped and checked a snow machine on Hwy 540 in Gordon Township near Gore Bay. A black Artic Cat Z44 snow machine was being operated by a young person without a helmet. Upon checking the snow machine it was found to be stolen and upon arrest and a quantity of controlled substances were found. As a result of this investigation two male young persons have been charged with criminal offences. The name of the youths cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A 15-year-old male has been charged with Possession for the purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act, Possession of Stolen Property and Failure to wear a helmet when operating a snow vehicle. Another 13-year-old male was charged with Possession of Stolen Property. Both youths were taken into custody. The investigation is continuing.

Shoplifting = Court Date

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police have charged a local 19-year-old male with theft under after receiving a complaint from a local business.

On March 13th, 2007 at approximately 1:35 p.m. the East Algoma OPP attended a local grocery store and investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly taken an item from store without paying.

Charged with Theft Under is [No conviction]. [No conviction] is scheduled to appear in court on May 1st, 2007.

Second Break and Enter Report FINNS Lake

A recreational property and shed located on FINNS Lake in Aweres Township were broken into by forcing the doors sometime between March 10th and 13th. Stolen was a trolling motor and ice auger. This is the second Break and Enter to have been reported from FINNS Lake this year. On the 24th of February a property on the lake was entered and a generator and gasoline were stolen.

Rural properties are very vulnerable to property crimes. People who own these properties are best placed to know if someone if in the area that in unknown to them. Please call the police or record the vehicle information on any such persons observed as this may provide a lead to the police should break and enters occur.
