OPP INVESTIGATE SAILBOAT MISHAP ON THE ST. MARY’S RIVER

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1:45 p.m. O.P.P. were called to attend at the St. Mary’s River in front of the RYTAC (Rotary and YMCA Tennis and Aquatic Centre) located on McPhail Street.

A group of youths were out in sailboats as part of the RYTAC training program when two males approached in a fishing boat.

The fishing boat driving by caused one of the sailboats carrying 3 youths to capsize.

One male youth, twelve years of age, was struck in the head area by the mast of the sailboat as it capsized.

Lifeguards on scene with the RYTAC program came to the aid of all three youths.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.

MARIHUANA GROW SEIZED IN THE BUSH OFF OF HIGHWAY 556

(Aweres Twp., ON) Members of the O.P.P. Joint Forces Drug Unit which consists of members from the O.P.P Drug Enforcement Bureau, the R.C.M.P. , and O.P.P. North East Region, located a Marihuana grow in the Heyden area off of Highway 556 yesterday afternoon.

30 Marihuana plants ranging from 1.5 to 3 feet in height were seized from a bush area on Crown land.

The seizure has an estimated street value of $30,000.00.
