“911” IS NOT EVERYWHERE—KNOW WHO TO CALL

Searchmont, Ont.,

Many communities across North America have long used the telephone number of 911 to access all emergency personnel.

It is important to know that not all the communities in Ontario are able to access the “911” system therefore you should be aware who to call in your respective area’s

A seasonal homeowner in the Searchmont area recently found out that the community of Searchmont is not serviced by 911. The homeowner was attempting to call emergency medical assistance for a family member when they discovered that 911 do not work in the Searchmont area.

If you have a seasonal, or permanent, home in that area or if you are just visiting the area the phone number for fire department in the Search Mont area is 946-2323. Of course if you want to reach the OPP you can dial our toll free number at 1-888-310-1122. If you have a cell phone that works in that area the OPP can be reached by dialling “ * 677” which is the same as “ * OPP ”.

Most phones have the ability to pre-program telephone numbers for your use. If you do not have 911 in your area think about pre-programming your phone with all the emergency numbers in your area. In an emergency, it is difficult to remember and to look up emergency numbers.

Be prepared for an emergency. The ability to push just one button on the phone, as opposed to having to dial several numbers, may make the difference between life and death.
