COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 17 NEAR DESBARATS – 3 INJURED (Desbarats, ON.) –Shortly after 8:00 a.m. members of the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were dispatched to a collision on Highway 17, west of Desbarats, Ontario.
COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 17 NEAR DESBARATS – 3 INJURED

(Desbarats, ON.) –Shortly after 8:00 a.m. members of the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were dispatched to a collision on Highway 17, west of Desbarats, Ontario.

A small passenger car was travelling eastbound and crossed the centerline into the path of a westbound SUV.

The driver of the eastbound passenger car was transported to Matthew’s Memorial Hospital by ambulance and then transferred to the Sault Area Hospital. The driver has since been flown to the Sudbury Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Matthew’s Memorial Hospital by ambulance and has been released. The passenger was transported to Matthew’s Memorial Hospital by ambulance and has been transferred to the Sault Area Hospital with minor injuries.

At the time of the collision, the roads were snow covered with slushy sections.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage.

Names of the injured will not be released at this time.

STOLEN SNOWMOBILE

(MacDonald Twp., ON) – A snowmobile has been reported stolen to OPP from a residence in the 200 block of Echo Lake Road, in MacDonald Township.

The 2003 Polaris Classic Touring sled was taken between 11:00 pm last night and 6:30 am this morning.

LOCAL MALE CHARGED IN THEFT OF GAS

(Blind River, ON.) – The Blind River OPP have charged a local volunteer firefighter after witnesses called police advising they observed the male fuelling his personal vehicle at the town gas pumps. The alleged theft occurred in the evening of January 23, 2010 at The Town of Blind River’s maintenance garage. Charged with theft under $5000 is Scott SIMON of Blind River. SIMON is to appear in court on March 4, 2010
