OPP URGE MOTORISTS TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION ON AREA ROADWAYS

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – The Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are cautioning motorists to drive with extra care and attention this morning in the wake of the weather conditions.

So far this morning no motor vehicle collisions have been reported on area highways. Highway 17 is snow covered and visibility is reduced. There are no reported Highway closures at this time.

Stay alert, slow down, and stay in control. Drive according to highway and weather conditions. Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you to avoid situations where you may have to brake suddenly on a slippery surface.

Check weather and travel conditions before heading out and allow yourself extra time for travel or wait until conditions improve.

Impaired Driver Arrested

(Batchewana First Nation, ON) – 53 year old Pierce Milton of Hilton Beach was arrested on the 8th of December at 12:55 am on Pontiac Street on the Batchewana First Nation and charged with one count of having care and control of a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

It is alleged that on the 8th December at 12:35 am an OPP officer observed a vehicle travelling on Frontenac St. with most of its windows obscured by snow. Officers stopped and checked the vehicle and found the accused to be under the influence of alcohol.

MILTON was released on a Promise to Appear for court on 25th January, 2009.

STOLEN ATV

(Vankoughnet Twp., ON) – A black 2006 Suzuki King Quad 700 4-wheeler was stolen sometime between December 7th and December 8th from a residence in the 100 block of Kirby Road in Goulais River.
