WAWA OPP ARREST MALE FOR MULTIPLE THEFTS (WAWA, ON) On December 15 th , 2011 the Superior East Wawa OPP Detachment were dispatched to a theft of gas from a gas station on Mission Road in Wawa.

WAWA OPP ARREST MALE FOR MULTIPLE THEFTS

(WAWA, ON) On December 15th, 2011 the Superior East Wawa OPP Detachment were dispatched to a theft of gas from a gas station on Mission Road in Wawa.  A vehicle fitting the description of a large red van was located north bound on Highway 17 near Obatanga Provincial Park.  A short pursuit ensued and a spike belt was deployed resulting in the van stopping safely.  An Edward Jeanveau, 28 years-of-age of London, Ontario was arrested.

As a result of the OPP investigation the accused was linked to multiple break and enters and thefts and has been charged with the following offences;

  • Theft Under $5,000 – theft of gas
  • Break and Enter – Agawa River construction site
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 – Agawa River – 14 items including bar fridge, clothing, 2-way radios and propane heater
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle – pursuit
  • Flight from Police – pursuit
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 – Ontario licence plates stolen from Spanish, Ontario
  • Possession of Stolen Firearm – 3030 Winchester identified stolen from Sudbury area
  • Possession of Break in Instruments
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 – 34 items identified as stolen from Espanola area including an ATV, 14’ aluminum canoe, generator, multiple tools and fishing equipment

All of the property was found inside the van driven by the accused at the time of his arrest. The accused was taken to Sault Ste Marie for a bail court hearing and he is currently in custody facing the above charges.

DRIVER FAILS TO STOP FOR POLICE

(TILLEY TWP., ON) -  Yesterday afternoon at approximately 3:30 pm an OPP officer on radar patrol on Highway 17 north in Tilley Township observed a blue Pontiac car travelling southbound at a high rate of speed.

The officer turned around, activated the emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

The vehicle did not stop and reached speeds in excess of 160 km/hr, passing on corners and narrowly missing a head on collision with a northbound vehicle.

The pursuit continued for approximately 30 kilometres at which time the vehicle attempted to turn left onto Post Office road in Goulais River.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle rolled, striking a guide wire for a hydro pole. The driver did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was totalled.

20 year old Timothy Picard of Venosta, Quebec was arrested and charged with Dangerous Driving, Failing to Stop for Police, Speeding, and Driving without a License.

The accused was held in custody pending Bail court today.
