(Fenwick Twp., ON) - A resident in the Goulais River area received a call on Monday, December 14, 2009 from a male who identified himself as a employee of Bell Mobility.

The male offered the resident a free phone, an offer for people over 80 years old.

The male asked the resident for his name, address and social insurance number over the phone. The resident was advised that he would receive a call back in five minutes to confirm the information.

The resident did receive a second call from a different male advising that his information was correct. He then told the male that he did not want to take the offer.

The next day the resident contacted Bell Mobility and was advised that they are not aware of any such offer. Police were then contacted.

The OPP would like to remind the public to be extremely cautious if a caller asks you for personal information over the phone……….. do not give it.

If the caller says, act now, they’re doing you a favour…….refuse immediately you are not obligated.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is………….if you are not sure, hang up.
