OPP Investigating Rural Break and Enter

Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are asking all rural residents and cottagers to watch out for unusual activity in their areas after two rural camps were broken into sometime during the last week.

A camp on Vixen lake was broken into between July 21-31. Taken was a 1993 Suzuki 4x4 ATV, 1980 Evenrude 9.9, 1970 4 or 5 HP Evenrude and 2 ½ Suzuki outboard motors with their gas cans. Also taken was a 1500 watt Honda generator. Fishing equipment and a Black ATV utility trailer were also removed from the property.

A second camp on Herrick rd at Grindstone Point was also entered sometime over the past week. Taken from this camp was liquor and a few hand tools.

Rural properties are very vulnerable to property crimes. One of the few measures of protection is for are residents and recreational users to note any vehicle or persons not known to frequent the area. By reporting this information to the police a possible lead could be developed should there be a reported crime. This type of cottage or rural watch activity is the best measure of protection for people owning recreational or rural homes.

Anyone with information on these or any crimes can report information directly to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers 1-800- 222-8477
