SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION HIGHWAY 101 (WAWA, ON.) – On August 15, 2012 at 7:50 a/m Superior East OPP in Wawa received a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 101 at Kinniwabi River Bridge.

(WAWA, ON.) – On August 15, 2012 at 7:50 a/m Superior East OPP in Wawa received a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 101 at Kinniwabi River Bridge.  It was reported that a pickup truck had struck a loader at the bridge causing minor injuries to both the driver and the loader operator. 

Both subjects were taken to Lady Dunn Hospital in Wawa by ambulance for treatment. Damage was extensive to the pickup truck.   Although charges are not expected, this matter remains under investigation.

SEVERAL CHARGES FOR LOCAL MALE    

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The OPP has arrested and charged a local male regarding a break, enter and theft in Elliot Lake.

Sometime between the 7th and the 11th of August 2012, the owner was away from his home on Lauzon Crescent in Elliot Lake.  During that time the accused, a tenant took belongings from the house and the vehicle without permission. 

Belongings taken consisted of expensive guitars, amps, TV’s, jewellery, tools and alcohol with a value exceeding $5,000.00.

Police investigated and located the stolen vehicle on Hillside Drive North.  A traffic stop was conducted.  The driver was arrested and charged.

Charged with the following is Richard Robert FRIESS (44) of Elliot Lake.

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.00
  • Theft over $5,000.00
  • Possession of schedule 1 (cocaine)
  • Theft under $5,000.00
  •  Break and Enter (X2)

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!    

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP reminds all citizens that drinking and driving is an offence which leads to severe consequences such as the lost of a drivers licence, large fine, increase insurance cost, and much more. 

On July 29th, 2012 at approximately 3:17 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake.  Through investigation, the driver was charged.

Charged with Exceed 80 Milligrams is John O’BRIEN (65) of Elliot Lake.  The accused is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on September 4, 2012.

At approximately 5:26 p.m. August 8, 2012 the OPP in Elliot Lake attended the area of Mississauga Avenue regarding a male party driving a 4 wheeler without a helmet.  Police patrolled the area and noted the red 4 wheeler in the Paris Drive area travelling towards a bush trail leading to Tokyo Crescent.  Police attended the Tokyo Crescent, located the driver and the 4 wheeler.  Through investigation the driver was charged.

Charged with Exceed 80 Milligrams is Gerald William CHILLMAN (57) of Elliot Lake.  The accused is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on October 2, 2012.

August 12, 2012 at approximately 10:59 p.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver around the Pearson Drive area.  Officers patrolled the area, located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Charged with the following is Arnaldo PINTO (65) of Elliot Lake.

YOUNG GIRL RESCUED FROM ROCK CLIFF

(MacDonald Twp., ON)At approximately 5:30 pm yesterday evening OPP responded to a call involving an 11 year old girl who was stuck on a rock cliff located at the east end of Cloudy Lake in MacDonald Township.

The young girl had slid down from the top end of the cliff with the intention of jumping off but became frightened and was stuck on a ledge where she could not turn around and climb back up.

This was approximately 25 – 30 feet above the water.

OPP attended, utilized a rescue rope and climbed down the rock face close enough to attach the rescue rope to the young girl and pull her back up to a place of safety.

There were no injuries and other family members were present at the scene.
