Fast Cold Water Can Be Dangerous

(Tilley Twp. ON) Early season fishing brings with it the hazards of fast moving frigid water, as Carl Murray age 65 of Timmons ON found out Monday evening around 11:30 p.m. when Mr. Murray had waded out into the Chippewa river wearing hip waders to fish. He fell and quickly ran into difficulty. Lucky for Mr Murray, Tim McClean age 23 of Sault Ste Marie was also in the area and waded out into the river and assisted Murray to shore. Within 10- 20 minutes of being immersed in cold water a person will have difficulty in rescuing themselves due to the effects of hypothermia. Care is always needed working or fishing around cold water.
