WAWA - The Ontario Provincial Police have charged one person for fleeing from police and stealing multiple vehicles.
On Jan. 19 at approximately 2 p.m., the Wawa Detachment of the OPP responded to reports of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle was located by officers travelling east on Highway 17, where it failed to stop for police. A short time later, the vehicle was located at Alona Bay on Highway 17.
As a result of the investigation, Jordan Smith, 35, from Kingston, was charged with:
- Break and enter - three counts
- Mischief under $5,000
- Failure to comply with release order
- Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000 - two counts
- Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Dangerous operation
- Flight from peace officer
- Theft of motor vehicle - two counts
- Driving while under suspension
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on Jan. 23.
That is not the only upcoming court date for Smith.
A few days earlier, on Jan. 17, the OPP in Chapleau responded to a stolen vehicle on Lafreniere Road.
While on the scene, officers were made aware of a second stolen vehicle in the same area.
The officers located the second stolen vehicle a short distance away with the suspect in the driver's seat.
As a result of the investigation, Smith was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle
- Operation while impaired - drugs
- Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Chapleau on Feb.12.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the suspect is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
