Vandals caused more than $50,000 in damages during a break-in at Elliot Lake's Centennial Arena on Sept. 27, 2024

East Algoma OPP have arrested two more teens in relation to a Sept. 27 break-in at the Centennial Arena in Elliot Lake.

The accused, both 17 years old of Elliot Lake, were arrested on Thursday evening and face charges of:
    •    Break, enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence (two counts)
    •    Mischief over $5,000

Investigators had previously arrested and charged two 17-year-olds on Oct. 1 in relation to this incident.

The investigation began on Sept. 27, after officers responded to the scene when contractors working on the arena noticed extensive damage inside.

"A Zoom-Boom was still running which had smashed into a large structural post, seven large commercial fire extinguishers were deployed everywhere, and all food in the canteen cupboards and refrigerator were damaged and thrown on the floor," police said in a news release.

Police say the damage is estimated at more than $50,000.

Video surveillance footage shows what appears to be the same group of youths attempting to break into Central Avenue Public School, police said.

The four accused, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 14.
