Two men in vehicle reported stolen face serious charges

The men were stopped on Trunk Road locally in a vehicle that was reported stolen in Hamilton. One of the men is also facing an identity theft charge

On June 27, 2019 at approximately 6:15 a.m. members of the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the OPP Highway Safety Division (T.I.M.E.) and the Batchawana Police Service were advised of a theft of gas in the Town of Bruce Mines, Ont. 

Sault Ste. Marie Officers were provided details of the vehicle, suspects and direction of travel.

Information revealed the suspect vehicle in question was stolen from Hamilton, Ont.

At approximately 6:45 a.m. officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Trunk Road, Sault Ste. Marie.

Both male suspects were initially arrested for Theft under $5,000 for the fuel and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for the vehicle.

Officers continued their investigation and as a result, have charged the two males with the following:

Justin Reginald Castello, 34-years-old from Hamilton, Ont.

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Six counts - possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Four counts - possession of identity document, contrary to section 56.1 of the CC,
  • Procures to make an identity document, contrary to section 56.1 of the CC,
  • Two counts - obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC,
  • Identity theft - obtained or possess another persons identity information, contrary to section 402.2 of the CC,
  • Theft under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC.

Jamal Brown, 28-years-old from Casselman, Ont.

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC,                                   
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC,
  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC,
  • Possession of an identity document, contrary to section 56.1 of the CC.

The accused are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on June 27, 2019 for a bail hearing located at 426 Queen Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
