MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT (Laird Twp., ON) - As a result of an ongoing investigation, 54 year old Vicary Alexander FREMLIN of 194 Calabogie Road has been charged with one count of assault.

(Laird Twp., ON) - As a result of an ongoing investigation, 54 year old Vicary Alexander FREMLIN of 194 Calabogie Road has been charged with one count of assault.

The alleged assault took place at a residence on Pumpkin Point Road on the 7th September 2009. The victim received minor bruises but did not require medical attention.

Fremlin is scheduled to appear in court on the 19 October, 2009.

TWO MOTOR VEHCILE COLLISONS WITH BEARS

(Garden River First Nation, ON) – Yesterday evening at approximately 8:55 p.m. OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a bear on Highway 17 East.

The 2005 Volkswagon Jetta that the female driver was driving was demolished.

The driver was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

(Garden River First Nation, ON) – A second motor vehicle collision involving a bear was reported to OPP at 9:20 p.m. yesterday evening on Highway 17 East near Belleau Lake Road.

The driver was not injured and the vehicle received minor damage.

OPP would like to remind motorists of the following driving tips where wildlife is present:

1) Slow down. Visibility is greatly reduced at night and so is a driver’s reaction time.
2) Avoid driving during dusk or dawn if possible.
3) Scan the road continuously, shoulder to shoulder.
4) At night watch for refection of animals’ eyes – they will blink, glow and move.
5) Drive cautiously through areas identified as high risk by wildlife crossing signs.
6) Always slow down when passing wildlife – it may suddenly jump into your lane.
7) Keep braking after an animal has crossed – there are usually more.
8) Never attempt extreme manoeuvres to avoid a collision.
9) Don’t assume the animal will more out of your way – most freeze in a vehicle’s headlights.

STOLEN UTILITY TRAILER

(Macdonald Twp., ON) – A utility trailer was stolen from the side of Highway 638 just east of Cemetery Road yesterday. The trailer had been left on the side of the Highway after breaking down the day before.

The trailer is described as a 2008 4 x 6 black utility trailer with a metal ramp at the rear with Ontario licence FH637H.
