(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) The Batchewana First Nation Police are investigating a break and enter into the Rankin Arena.

Sometime during the Sunday night and Monday morning thieves entered the building and damaged offices inside the arena. At this time it is unknown if anything was taken from the arena. Entry and exit to the building was gained by forcing open a back door of the arena.

VARIETY STORE CLERK ASSAULTED

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) Yesterday afternoon the Batchewana First Nation Police were called to a variety store on the Territory after a clerk was assaulted by a customer.

At about 1:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon an unknown man entered the store to make a purchase. An argument started after the clerk advised the customer that she didn’t have the proper change for his bill. The man picked up a package of cigarettes and threw it at the clerk, striking her in the face. The man fled the area in a grey van. A search of the area by the Batchewana First Nation Police was conducted but the van and the suspect were not located.

YOUTH CHARGED FOR SNEAKING OUT OF THE HOUSE

(Heyden, Ont.) A thirteen year old Heyden youth will make another court appearance for leaving home after his curfew.

Last night at about 7:00 p.m. the mother of the youth called police to say that the thirteen year old has left the house. The youth is under a probation order with a curfew of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

When he finally did return home at midnight, the police were called and returned to the house and arrested the youth. He will appear again in Youth Court on Nov 26 2007 to offer an explanation for his wandering ways.

LOCAL BUSINESS VICTIM OF MISCHIEF

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police are currently investigating a mischief at a local business in Elliot Lake.

Investigation revealed that between 11:00 p.m. October 18th, 2007 and 8:00 a.m. October 19th, 2007, unknown person(s) smashed a 4’ X 5’ plate glass window of a business located on Ontario Avenue. Entry was not gained as the inside pane of glass stayed in place. Approximate damage of $300.00.

RIDE CHECK NETS DRIVER A VISIT TO COURT

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On October 21st, 2007 at approximately 1:00 a.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP set up a RIDE program on highway 108 in the City of Elliot Lake.

Shortly after setting up, police stopped a vehicle and officers requested the driver provide a breath sample.

Charged with operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol is Helmut ZIMMER (69) of Elliot Lake.

ZIMMER is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on December 4th, 2007.
