NAME OF DECEASED INVOLVED IN HIGHWAY 17B FATALITY RELEASED 

(Garden River First Nation, ON) Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police with the assistance of the Anishnabek Police Service and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Traffic Unit continue their investigation into a fatality the occurred Highway 17B approximately 500 metres west of Bell’s Point Road.

The body of a deceased male had been discovered by a passing motorist at 5:16 am on Sunday, October 13th, 2013.

The male has been identified as 22 year old Jessie James Gordon Roach of Wolf Street, Garden River First Nation, Ontario.

A post mortem has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Sault Area Hospital.

OPP urge any person with information regarding this investigation or may have been traveling the area at that time, to contact the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment immediately at 1-888-310-1122, or their nearest police authority.

MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

(WHITE RIVER, ON) - The Superior East Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) White River Detachment were called to a residence on Winnipeg St on Saturday October 12, 2013 at 1:30 pm. 

Upon arrival officers learned that a male had been struck with a shovel and was receiving medical attention from the Algoma Emergency Medical Service (EMS). 

The victim was transported to the Lady Dunn Health Centre in Wawa by EMS and was treated and released.

The accused, Derek SUTHERLAND was located a short time later and was arrested for the following offences;

1. Assault with a Weapon Causing Bodily Harm
2. Breach of Probation – 2 counts

The accused became very agitated in the OPP cruiser and as a result of his actions was further charged with the following;

1. Mischief Under $5,000
2. Assault Peace Officer
3. Utter Threats

The accused was held in custody and transported to Sault Ste Marie for a bail hearing set for October 15, 2013.
