Mischief at Sideburned Lake Dam

(Chapleau) – On October 26, 2009 Superior East OPP at Chapleau received a complaint from Ministry of Natural Resources that persons unknown had caused damage to the dam located at Sideburned Lake near Highway 101, 10 kilometres west of Chapleau. This incident had occurred sometime during the past month. The dam had recently received upgrades to the railings and dam logs which control water flow. It is believed that more than one individual was responsible for removing the log and throwing it into the spillway of the dam. This log was secured to a stainless steel railing with a chain and the weight of the log caused damage to the railing and the cement footings when it was moved. Damage is estimated at $1000.00. Due to the seriousness of this type of incident police are requesting that anyone with any information which may lead to the apprehension of those responsible to call The OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISON SEND ONE MALE TO HOSPITAL

(Laird Twp., ON) – OPP responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Watson’s Road in Laird Township.

A 1994 Ford pick up was travelling westbound on Watson’s road attempting to make a left hand turn into a private driveway when the driver and lone male occupant of a 1999 Oldsmobile also travelling westbound pulled out to the left attempting to pass the turning vehicle.

The driver of the 1999 Oldsmobile, 85 year old Claude Lutes was transported to Sault Area Hospital with serious head injuries.

The collision is still under investigation.

STOLEN BIKE

(Batchewana First Nation, ON) – A light blue and silver girl’s Sportek Ridge Runner 18 speed bike was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Frontenac Street within the last two days.
