MALE CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED ON 4-WHEELER (Blind River, ON.) – On May 24, 2010 at 8:10 p.m. police were called to the Centre Street area in Blind River for a complaint of a male speeding on 4-wheeler without a helmet.

(Blind River, ON.) – On May 24, 2010 at 8:10 p.m. police were called to the Centre Street area in Blind River for a complaint of a male speeding on 4-wheeler without a helmet. Officers attended and located the male operating the ATV and after speaking with the male he was arrested for impaired. Charged is 18 year old Matthew FITZPATRICK of Blind River. FITZPATRICK has been charged with the following offences.

1) Impaired operation of a motor vehicle, section 253(1)(a) Criminal Code
2) Over 80 milligrams blood alcohol concentration, section 253(1)(b) Criminal Code
3) Person under 19 years consume liquor, section 30(8) Liquor Licence Act
4) Drive motor vehicle no license, section 32(1) Highway Traffic Act
5) Fail to wear proper helmet, section 19(1) Off Road Vehicle Act

FITZPATRICK is scheduled to appear in Blind River court on August 12, 2010.

TRAFFIC STOP RESULT IN DRUG CHARGES

(Blind River, ON.) – On May 22, 2010 at 1:30 a.m. officers from the East Algoma detachment stopped a vehicle on Highway 17 in Spanish. After a short roadside investigation police located a quantity marijuana and prescription drugs. Charged are 29 year old Leonard JORDAN, 23 year old Dawn MARTEL, 50 year old Joseph NEWTON and 23 year old Sarah RETIFFE all of Elliot Lake. They are all charged with two (2) counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, section 5(2)of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act. They are scheduled to appearing Blind River court on August 12, 2010.

Marihuana and Switchblade Knife Seized in Chapleau Search Warrant

(Chapleau, ON) –The Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau Drug Enforcement Unit and the OPP Superior East Detachment executed a search warrant on a Chapleau residence on 20 May 2010 and charged one person with drug and weapons offences.

An indoor marihuana growing operation was located within the residence. Police seized 101 marihuana plants along with a switch blade knife, and a home made metal shank. The street value of the drugs seized is $ 101,000.

Shane VEINS, age 29 of Chapleau

Charged with:

Production of Controlled Substance
Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking
Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime

VEINS was released and will appear for court in Chapleau on 14 Jul 2010

THREE MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISONS INVOLVING ANIMALS

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – OPP investigated three motor vehicle collisions involving moose and deer this past weekend.

All were single motor vehicle collisions and there were no injuries. All involved vehicles had to be towed.

Two collisions occurred on Highway 17 east and one on Highway 17 north.

OPP reminds motorists that with the warm weather now here animals are trying to escape biting insects and are wandering more onto the highways. Wildlife collisions occur most frequently between 5 am – 7 am and 6 pm – midnight. Slow down especially at night when visibility is greatly reduced and so is your reaction time. Drive cautiously through areas identified as high risk by wildlife crossing signs and always slow down when passing wildlife – it may suddenly jump into your lane.

STOLEN ATV

(Deroche Twp., ON) – Sometime between May 20 and May 22, 2010 a 2004 Honda Rancher All Terrain 4 x 4 vehicle green in colour was stolen from a seasonal residence at Northland Lake.

The ATV was chained to a tree.

MISCHIEF AT DOMTAR MILL

(WHITE RIVER, ON.) – On May 20, 2010 Superior East OPP attended the Domtar Mill regarding a report of a Break, Enter and Mischief at that location. Investigation revealed that person(s) unknown had entered by smashing the front windows of the main office doors. Once inside suspects smashed a glass trophy case; caused damage to a wall on the second floor by using a fire extinguisher to smash holes through the drywall. Four computers were smashed against the ground outside the building and windows were smashed in 3 company vehicles parked in the mill parking lot. Total damage is estimated at $15000.00. The OPP is requesting anyone with any information into this senseless crime to call The OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

ATV OPERATOR IMPAIRED

(WAWA, ON.) – On May 20, 2010 Superior East OPP at Wawa received a report of a collision involving an ATV which occurred at approximately 5:30 pm on the Forge Road approximately 20 kilometres north of Hawk Junction, Ontario. Investigation revealed that the male operator had lost control and rolled the ATV resulting in minor, non life threatening injuries. Further investigation indicated that the male had been allegedly consuming alcohol. As a result Wayne RUFF age 52 of Hawk Junction, Ontario stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences;
(1) Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle;
(2) Exceed 80 milligrams blood/Alcohol Content;
The accused will appear in Wawa Court on July 5, 2010 to answer to the charges.

TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVER IMPAIRED

(WHITE RIVER, ON.) – On May 21, 2010 Superior East OPP at White River attended to Highway 17, Chapais Twp., approximately 34 kilometres south of White River regarding a report of a single tractor trailer collision with no injuries. Upon arrival officers noted that the northbound unit had entered the west ditch. Upon speaking to the driver the smell of an alcoholic beverage was noted on his breath. The driver, Monty SCHOEN age 58 of DUGLAND, Manitoba was subsequently arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offence of Exceed 80 milligrams blood/alcohol content returnable at Wawa court on August 9, 2010. There was minor damage to the Tractor Trailer unit.

VEHICLE STOLEN IN CHAPLEAU

(CHAPLEAU, ON.) – On May 22, 2010 a resident in Chapleau reported that sometime overnight person(s) unknown had stolen her 1992 Oldsmobile 4dr car, white in colour with Ontario licence 707SWZ. The vehicle was reported to have ½ tank of gas. Keys were not in the vehicle. As this vehicle is still outstanding, anyone with any information into this theft is asked to contact The OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

TRACTOR TRAILER OPERATOR STUNT DRIVING

(CHAPLEAU, ON.) – On May 24, 2010 Superior East OPP in Chapleau were conducting RADAR duties on Highway 129, Daoust Township. At 8:14 pm officers noted a tractor trailer unit approaching at a high rate of speed. The vehicle entered the RADAR at 138 kilometres in a posted 80 kilimetre zone. As a result the Tractor Trailer was stopped and the driver, Dieter LACHMANN age 47 of SACKVILLE, New Brunswick stands charged with “Racing a Motor Vehicle” along with other Highway Traffic Act offences. The Tractor Trailer unit has been seized along with Mr LACHMANN’s Driver’s Licence. He will appear in Chapleau Traffic Court on September 8, 2010.
