DRIVER CHARGED IN MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(Havilland Twp., ON) – OPP responded to a two vehicle collision in a construction zone yesterday afternoon at 2:13 pm on Highway 17 North.

A car being driven southbound on Highway 17 was stopped at a construction zone in Havilland Township when the car was hit from behind from a vehicle coming up from behind.

Both vehicles received moderate damage. There were no injuries to either driver.

Charged with Follow to Close under the Highway Traffic Act is 85 year old Violet Somes of Albert St. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

OPP remind motorists to be aware of construction zones while travelling and pay attention at all times. Road surfaces and traffic patterns change frequently in work zones. Anticipate detours and stops and watch for workers, new signs, traffic signals, pavement markings, or uneven pavement. Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Don’t tailgate – sudden stops are common in construction zones.

MARIJUANA GROW OPERATION LOCATED IN SEARCHMONT

(Gaudette Twp., ON) - Members of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment and the Sault Ste. Marie Drug Unit attended a bush area in the Searchmont area after receiving information of a marijuana grow operation.

A large glass box was located in the bush area with 25 “small” plants believed to be marijuana plants, and 63 biodegradable pots inside the box.

The plants were seized by Police.

The investigation is continuing.

YOUTH ARRESTED

(Hodgins Twp., ON) - Sault Ste. Marie OPP were dispatched to a residence in Searchmont yesterday at 5:24 pm.

It is alleged that a 16 year old female verbally threatened a family member. The youth was on a probation order at the time.

The youth was arrested and charged with Uttering Threats and three counts of Breach of Probation.

The youth will appear in Bail court this morning.

FEMALE YOUTH CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(Tilley Twp., ON) - OPP attended a residence in Tilley Township north of Sault Ste. Marie yesterday at 5:35 pm in response to an assault complaint.

As a result of an investigation, a 13 year old female youth was arrested and charged with assaulting a 10 year old child.

The youth was arrested on a Promise to Appear for court on 22 June 2010.
