OPP INVESTIGATE RASH OF VEHICLE THEFTS IN LAIRD TOWNSHIP OVERNIGHT

(Laird Twp., ON) – Sault Ste. Marie OPP are investigating three separate incidents of stolen vehicles that occurred in Laird Township sometime overnight and during the day of May 11th, 2009.

A 2005 Yamaha Kodiak 450 CC four-wheeler, green in colour was taken from a residence in the 100 block of Bar River Road between 2:00 am and 3:00 am.

A 2007 Baja Motorsports Enduro DR 125 Dirt bike, red, black and silver in colour was stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Bar River road also between 2:00 am and 3:00 am.

A 2008 American Sport 715, (2 seater dune buggy) red, black and silver in colour was stolen from a residence in the 400 block of Lakeview Road between 10:00 am and 4:30 pm yesterday.

All vehicles were loaded onto a vehicle or trailer.

OPP are continuing their investigation.

Drug Bust

On Monday the 11th of May 2009 members of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police along with members of the OPP Drug Enforcement Section Sudbury and the UCCM Police Service executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act warrant at a local residence in Wikwemikong, Ontario.

As a result of conducting the search at this residence police seized cannabis marihuana, offence related property and an unsafely stored firearm.

Adolphus John COOPER 59 years of age is charged with: Possession of a firearm without being the holder of a registration certificate (1count) Careless Storage of a firearm (1count) Possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance (1count)

Heather Kay PELTIER 32 years of age is charged with: Possession of a firearm without being the holder of a registration certificate (1count) Careless Storage of a firearm (1count) Possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance (1count)

This investigation is part of an on-going initiative by members of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service, OPP Drug Enforcement Section Sudbury to address the increase in crime and drug related activity.
