ASSAULT CHARGE LAID AND WARRANT ISSUED IN DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE

(Aweres Twp., Ont.) The Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police investigated a domestic disturbance early this morning. One female was arrested and charged with assault.

An arrest warrant has been sought for one male for one count of Assault, two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a firearm and two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm under the Criminal Code of Canada.

TRAIL PERMIT REQUIRED!

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP and S.T.O.P. officers patrolled trails during this past weekend. 23 sleds and 4 ATV’s were checked with 1 permit related charge was laid and 3 cautions issued.

Police remind the public that a OFSC trail permit is required when riding the trails.

ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP NETS COURT TIME FOR LOCAL MALE!

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On March 15th, 2008 at approximately 3:17 p.m. while on general patrol, an OPP officer conducted a traffic stop at the corner of Hillside Drive North and Beech Road in Elliot Lake. Resulting from the traffic stop, the officer received information that the driver may be a suspended driver.

Charged with Driving when Disqualified is Helmut ZIMMER (70) of Elliot Lake. ZIMMER is scheduled to appear in court on April 8th, 2008.

UPDATE - PLANE CRASH – McKerrow

(Espanola) – Members from the Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are currently at the scene of a plane crash in McKerrow.

Initial investigation reveals that a plane left Guelph and was enroute to Elliot Lake when it crashed behind a farm house on Vanalstine Road in McKerrow. The pilot, who was the lone occupant, was taken to Espanola General Hospital and suffered minor injuries. There was nobody else injured.

RCC Trenton did attend the scene but the victim had already been rescued and taken hospital.

Transport Canada has been notified and are assisting with the investigation which is continuing. Further details will be released when they become available.
