BOATING ACCIDENT PROVES FATAL (Algoma Mills, ON.) – On June 15th 2009 officers of the East Algoma OPP Blind River detachment were called a camp on Lake Lauzon in Algoma Mills for a boating accident.
BOATING ACCIDENT PROVES FATAL

(Algoma Mills, ON.) – On June 15th 2009 officers of the East Algoma OPP Blind River detachment were called a camp on Lake Lauzon in Algoma Mills for a boating accident. Upon arrival police learned that a group of friends were boating on lake Lauzon. During their activities Rocque SEGUIN was in the water and was struck by the boat causing fatal injuries. Deceased is 26 year old Rocque SEGUIN of Blind River. As a result of the police investigation Tiffany MACMILLAN has been charged with operating a vessel while exceeding over 80 milligrams of blood alcohol and thereby causes an accident which resulted in death.
MACMILLAN is schedule to appear in Blind River Court on September 3rd 2009.

THEFT/FIRE SAND RIVER

(WAWA) – The OPP is presently investigating a report of a theft and fire which occurred on June 15, 2009 at approximately 12:30 am. Person(s) unknown smashed a gate leading to a MTO gravel pit located on Sand River Road, Hwy 17 south north of Agawa Bay. Once entry was gained it is alleged that a front end loader and a generator were set on fire. It was also reported that a number of items including tools, battery, a second generator as well as other parts were removed. A vehicle, believed to be a purple Ford F150 with a matching truck cap was seen leaving the area around the time of the incident. This fire and theft is presently under investigation and The OPP is requesting that anyone who may have any information regarding this incident call The OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

ATV DRIVERS CHARGED

(WAWA) – On June 15, 2009 at approximately 2:40 am The OPP had occasion to check two ATVs being driven on Anjigami Road near Highway 101 35 kilometres east of Wawa. Both drivers were found to have been consuming alcohol and were also in possession of an improperly stored shotgun. The two men advised police that they were hunting rabbits. As a result of further investigation the following charges have been laid; Steven BURT age 18 of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario has been charged with
(1) Exceed 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Taylor ZALEWSKI age 18 also of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario stands charged with
(1) Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, Criminal Code of Canada,
(2) Person Under 18 years consume alcohol, Liquor Licence Act,
(3) Fail to wear proper helmet and Fail to Surrender Proof of Insurance, under the Off Road Vehicles Act,
Along with these charges Mr ZALEWSKI also received a three (3) day Driver’s Licence suspension for registering a “Warn” on a breathalyser.
Both subjects will appear in Wawa Court on August 10, 2009 to answer to the charges.

MARINE ENFORCEMENT

(WAWA) – On June 12, 2009 officers patrolling the Missanabie area had occasion to check a boat being operated by male subject. Further checks revealed the male had been consuming alcohol. A test on a breathalyser resulted in a “Warn” and James SUTTER age 32 of Manistee, Michigan had his driver’s licence suspended for three (3) days.

R.I.D.E. – Several RIDE checks were done by The OPP throughout the Superior East patrol area resulting in 300 vehicles being checked. Various Highway Traffic Act charges were laid but no other infractions were noted.


WARRANT RESULTS IN DRUG AND FIREMARMS CHARGES

(Serpent River First Nation, ON.) – On June 11th 2009 members of the East Algoma OPP Blind River detachment received information of a possible marihuana grow operation in a residence on Serpent River First Nation. Acting on a Controlled Drugs and Substance Search Warrant police searched the residence located on Village road in Serpent River. The search resulted in police locating the following:

- Suspected marihuana plants in with an estimated street value of $25000.00
- Various paraphernalia used in the production of marihuana
- 230 grams of suspected marihuana
- 13 long guns and a large quantity of ammunition all of which were improperly stored

William James MOORE and Wanda Commanda are scheduled to appear in Blind River
Court on August 6th 2009. William “Billy” James MOORE was brought to Sault Ste Marie for a bailing hearing.

MALE CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT AND ASSAULT

(Serpent River First Nation, ON.) – On June 11th 2009 East Algoma OPP Blind River detachment received a complaint involving an allegation of sexual assault and assault that occurred in late March and early June 2009. Officers conducted an investigation and as a result a 31 year old of Serpent River First Nation has been charged with the following criminal offences:

1) 2 counts - Assault contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada
2) 2 counts - Breach of Probation contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
3) 1 count – sexual assault contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada

SEVERAL BREAK AND ENTERS IN THE AREA

On June 12, 2009 at approximately 11:00 a.m. the East Algoma Thessalon OPP were contacted regarding a break and enter on Highway 17, Lefroy Township.

Several items were taken including 2 Honda generators, a BBQ, television, DVD player, 2 CD players, alcohol, various CD’s and DVD’s and a DVD stand.

The items stolen are estimated at $4000.00

The break and enter occurred sometime between Monday June 8, 2009 and Friday June 12, 2009.

On June 14, 2009 at approximately 11:00 a.m. 3 break and enters were reported in the Loon Lake area which is located off of Highway 129 in the Huron Shores Township.

Items stolen include a generator, weed eater, water pump, BBQ, TV, and laminate flooring.

It is estimated that approximately $3500.00 in property was stolen.

These break and enters occurred sometime between Monday May 25, 2009 and June 14, 2009.
